The perils of "cute"
They have salmonella, they eat the eggs of a threatened species of native tortoise, they are destroying the dunes, there are ten of them for every year-round resident, and they are aliens. Oh, and they are two feet long and like to swim in toilets: 16 years ago, however, when there was a plan to eradicate them, they were thought to be cute.
